GS-19. Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats

Aim:

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency, required to demonstrate their competence in fast rescue boats, in accordance with provisions of paragraph 2 of the Section A-VI/2, Table A-VI/2-2 of the STCW Code, as amended. This course is designed in accordance with the provisions of the IMO Model Course 1.24.

Course Type:

Part 1: Online (on GIMET e-learning platform)

Part 2: Practical (in collaboration with Sea Survival School, Tuzla, jud. Constanta, Romania)

Course Entry Requirements:

-open to all seafarers and prospective seafarers before or during employing on RO/RO, Passenger ships and any other type of commercial or offshore vessel.

-it is recommended that all prospective trainees to have completed the course Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats prior to attending the Fast Rescue Boats course (in accordance with regulation VI/2, paragraph 1 of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended.

Note for practical drills:

  • trainees must provide a proof that they participated in onboard Fast Rescue Boats drills during the last 12 months.

trainees must provide a proof that they are medically fitted for the course (or a valid medical/health certificate)

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, successful trainees should be able to handle and take charge of a fast rescue boat during or after launch in adverse weather and sea conditions.

Trainees will also be able to operate a fast rescue boat engine.

Trainees will know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and signaling equipment between the rescue boat and a helicopter and the ship; and how to carry out search patterns.

Course Structure:

Candidates will use the GIMET e-learning platform to watch a series of video lessons, and to access a broad range of teaching materials. The practical part of the course is organized in the Sea Survival School facilities in Tuzla (Constanta county, Romania).

Course Timeline:

Part 1 (theoretical, online): 3 days

Part 2 (practical): 1 day

Course Assessment and Certification:

At the end of the course the trainee has to pass a 25-minute Online Exam, consisting in 20 items of various types. On successful completion of the course, candidate will be awarded an internationally recognized Course Completion Certificate.
