AIM:
This course aims to familiarize the trainees with the general onboard safety concepts, principles, rules and equipment, as well as with the shipboard safety officer tasks, duties and procedures..
ENTRY STANDARDS:
The course is open to crew members likely to be appointed as shipboard safety officer
DURATION:
2 days (16 hours)
METHOD OF DELIVERY:
The course consists of a series of classroom lectures and educational movies. Lecture sessions are conducted by a GIMET instructor in a classroom. Alternatively, students may access the course online, on Gimet e-learning platform.
ASSESSMENT:
A final assessment is scheduled at the end of day 2 of the course, covering the course’s curricula.
CERTIFICATE:
Trainees that successfully complete this course are awarded an internationally recognized course certificate.

-Explain in detail the hazards associated with various types of commercial ships.
-Indicate the shipboard dangerous operations.
-Describe the content of the Permit to Work and Enclosed Space Entry Permit.
-Enumerate the international health and safety legislation.
-Enumerate the tasks of the Shipboard Safety Officer.
-Explain the duties of the Shipboard Safety Officer.
-Explain the safety role of the Company.
-Describe the accident recording.
-Explain how safety inspections are performed.
-Demonstrate how a dangerous work must be stopped immediately.
-Explain how the accident investigation is performed.
